Secrest Artists Series Digital Anthology
30 Years of Performing Arts: The Secrest Artists Series at Wake Forest University 1983-2013
30 Years of Performing Arts is a digital exhibit I curated during my time as an intern (Spring 2014) with Digital Initiatives at Z. Smith Reynolds Library at Wake Forest University. One of my major projects was to build the digital exhibit with materials from the university's long-running performance series the Secrest Artists Series. None of the materials had been previously digitized, so in addition to selecting items for the collection, myself and an undergraduate student worker digitized everything for the exhibit. In addition to a beloved, tried and true overhead scanner to digitize materials, we also had the pleasure of being the guinea pigs for a v-shaped cradle book scanner that had not seen much use previously. As anyone who has worked with these scanners knows, figuring out the quirks and personality of the scanner was interesting, to say the least, and as much of a challenge as creating the collection.
The 30 Years of Performing Arts collection includes programs, graphic posters, tickets, "behind-the-scenes" materials, and more, and was curated using BiblioBoard software, also somewhat new to the library at the time. You can read more about the anthology on my guest blog post introducing the collection. In addition to writing the guest post introducing the series, I also wrote the exhibit overview (bottom right of the exhibit main page) and maintained my own blog, the Shelf Life blog, during my internship. All posts tagged "zsr sca" are related to my internship at Wake Forest.
